RESTful Web Services

REST, Representational State Transfer is a style of software architecture for distributed hypermedia systems such as the World Wide Web. It is software architectural style which refers to "a set of design rules that identify the kinds of components and connectors that may be used to compose a system or subsystem." In the web services world, REST is a style that joins stateless client-server architecture where the web services can be viewed as resources and identified by URLs. Basically, the interface of REST is generic and there is no need for protocol conventions for the communication between client and server. There are various methods which are used by REST like GET, POST, PUT and DELETE. Lots of major web services on the internet use REST such as; Twitter, Flickr, Yahoo, del.icio.us etc. which proves the worth of it.
